Heid History
NEA HeidsIn 1859, just nine years after Heidelberg College was founded, the Nu Sigma Alpha fraternity was established. The group first started when the Heids broke away from the Excelsior Men’s Society, and on April 15th, 1859 the constitution for the Heidelberg Literary Society was approved. The society started off meeting in the old college seminary rooms. Ten years later the group moved into its new hall on the fourth floor of Founders. In the fall of 1886, the Heids were put into their present hall on the third floor of College Hall.

Our goals are to further the pursuit of literary accomplishments, to encourage participation and sportsmanship in the field of athletics, and to promote fraternal friendship and social attitudes. We definitely live up to our fraternity slogan, “Unity Through Diversity.” During the fraternity’s 100th birthday celebration, the Heids became the first group on campus to change it’s name and incorporate Greek Letters based upon the initials of its motto: “Victory Crowns the Brave.” Currently, the Heids participate in the Homecoming parade, The Heid-Kappa Halloween bash, Greek Sing, and the Greek Olympics. We also sponsor the Ryan J. Klebowski Memorial-Charity Basketball game. As you can see, the Heids are actively involved both on and off campus, and continue to pride ourselves on all of our great traditions.
